How To Be Your Own Guru

Guru - Soul Guidance

:::::::

The minute that we have a question about something, what major search engine do we go to?

3…2…1…

You guessed it... Google.

If we need to find ideas for the night’s recipe - we google it. If we want to stay updated on the latest entertainment news - we google it. Google google google.

The internet seems to be our go to tool for everything that we need to find information on - even if we are searching for information on ourselves.

We look to different teachers and seek wisdom about ourselves from people that we “think” have insight into our lives.

But the truth is...

There is no one better equipped to handle you than well…

YOU.

I know that we think all the answers are outside of us, but they are not. As a matter of fact, people are fickle. They will love you one moment and leave you the next, and then what happens when you are all alone with no one else - but yourself, to deal with your issues?

There is no one that is going to be there for you 24/7, and it’s sad, but it’s true.

So, I'm going to give you 7 tips on how to be your own guru.

Turning to yourself in times of need, helps you build confidence in your ability to find your own way, and when no one else is around, you can look yourself in the mirror and say, I got you.

Here's how to be your own guru.

1. Coach Yourself

What do you do when your friends come to you with an issue?

You don’t scold them or call them stupid. You don’t tell them that you don’t have time for them or belittle them.

You calm them down. You redirect them to a possible solution. You reassure them that everything will be alright. Do the same thing for yourself.

Calm yourself down, seek out solutions and ways to soothe the issue, and reassure yourself that everything will work out fine.

2. Follow Your Intuition

Where would Oprah Winfrey be if she followed where everyone else thought she should be? What would have happened if she didn’t trust her own gut and her own sense of who she was?

Where would Elizabeth Gilbert be if she didn’t follow her instincts to travel the world, to find her true sense of self, and to follow her bliss?

I can tell you one thing - that Eat Pray Love thang (yes thang) would have never happened.

It is imperative that you trust yourself. Find your sense of who you are and follow those impulses. Keep your heart open to your own intuition and let it lead the way.

3. Surround Yourself With Positive People and Things

Okay, I know you are tired of hearing that, but it’s true. You absorb what you are around.

Here’s a wonderful video (How The Mind Works) that gives you an idea of how we process information.

If your mind absorbs what you surround yourself with, it’s best that you surround yourself with positive people and things. Finding ways to increase your happiness and remain fulfilled is a part of being your own guru.

4. Pep Yourself Up

Let’s face it, some days you don’t always wake up ready to go or to cheerlead. I know I don’t.

Sometimes you have to literally get yourself up and pep yourself up. Get up and do your positive affirmations, make yourself smile, and tell yourself you can do it.

Pep yourself up when you need that extra push to get things going.

5. Talk/Walk Yourself Through Your Challenges

It’s important that you learn how to manage what life throws at you. We don’t give ourselves enough leeway sometimes to just feel our way through things.

The next time an issue comes up, stop and assess the situation. Calm yourself down and talk yourself through it. Ask yourself, how can I get to the best possible outcome with this situation?

After you have your answer, do everything within your power to work your way towards that outcome.

6. Unmask Your Fears

Find out why you fear what you fear.

Ask yourself what the deeper meaning behind your fear is. If I do that then I’m afraid that I will - ex. ruin my reputation, lose my husband, feel like a failure, etc.

Take time to tune into what you are really feeling and what’s really behind the fear, and then…

7. Seek Solutions To Move Past Your Fears

Afraid to speak in public, but your real desire is to be a motivational speaker? Take a course and build up your confidence.

Afraid to ask someone you are interested in on a date? Strike up a conversation anyway, feel things out, and then make your decision from that new place.

Fear has a way of keeping us stuck, but to move past fear, you have to decide if you are willing to open your heart to the new experience or walk away. It’s really your choice, but if it’s your heart’s desire - it will not go away.

So you might as well feel your way through it, and find a way to get comfortable with it.

Well, there you have it - how to be your own guru.

There are so many wonderful teachers and gurus out there, but...

There is no better guidance than that which comes from your own soul. (Tweet This)
