Some Words For The Inner Critic
The inner critical voice that we all have is no fun.
It says things like...
- You're not good enough.
- That idea won't work.
- No one will understand you.
- What if you're not well received.
- What are you thinking by making that move, etc.
Whenever we're getting ready to step out of our comfort zone, shed old skin, or expand, that voice shows up and even stops us right in our tracks sometimes.
It's fine when it shows up every once and a while. We can handle that, but what about when it just rears its ugly head. What about when your inner critic's thoughts are constant and you can't get out of its tangled web.
What do you do then?
It doesn't do you any good to just stuff that voice down. That voice has real concerns. It's the inner part of you that's afraid and that doesn't want to put itself in any danger. So it will kick and scream until it's heard. We have to start tending to that voice. Soothing it. Letting it know that we've got this.
I've created some words for the inner critic.
Download this track, use it, and play it back to yourself whenever you need to. Enjoy!
Transcript Of The Track: Some Words For The Inner Critic
To the critical voice that shows itself anytime I get ready to do something new, anytime I’m shedding my old skin, or expanding I have some words for you.
Stop and listen for just a little while.
I know you think that I don't know what I'm doing.
I know you're afraid of sharing yourself, especially the most intimate parts of yourself. I know you tense up and get frustrated whenever I'm stepping outside of my comfort zone. I hear you.
It's scary ~ the unexpected.
It’s scary to not know how you're going to be received. It's even scarier to recall all the times that you weren’t well received or that you felt rejected. I hear you. But we're going to move past that now.
My intention is clear.
I am going to allow the ebbs and flows of life without fear and without judgment. I am going to allow my emotions without fear and without judgment. I am going to allow my creative impulses without fear and without judgment.
There are words I would like to write, there’s a song that I would like to sing, and there’s a way that my soul came here to express. I’m going to follow that call.
I know it feels uncertain. I know you feel sad to leave your old sense of security behind and step into this unfamiliar terrain, but let's just see how it goes. If I mess up, I can re-center myself. Missteps are allowed. Not popular in society’s eyes, but in the soul's journey to evolve ~ missteps are allowed.
I'm opening the door to something new now, and it is my intention to follow my creative impulses, to align with the flow of life, and to enjoy this journey.
So it's ok to settle down now.
I'm clear, I have my purpose, I know myself more now than ever before, and there is so much help for if and when I get off track. So just chill.
Thanks for listening. I hope this helps soothe some of your concerns.
Onward we go!
